A major part of the $17 million renovation of the Downtown Library was a redesign of the Central Plaza. McRay Crane and Rigging, Inc. was hired to lift into place three 10,000 lbs awnings. To prevent damage to the newly resurfaced plaza, the 200 ton crane had to complete the lifts while positioned on the nearest street. The center awning required a reach of 165 feet.
